Hi! And welcome to my very first Blog post for A’Dore Design.

Although I have an “About Me” page on this website, I wanted to write about a personal background of starting A’dore Design and this Blog.

Before I started my career as Beauty Therapist twelve years ago, I was writing. In fact, as a child I couldn’t decide if I wanted to be a writer or an artist when I grew up and, in reflection, throughout the years I have incorporated both within my career. The artist within me found ways to focus on the beauty of transforming clients whether make up, tinting, waxing, skin and nail care; and the writer within me wrote newsletters, client treatment procedures, treatment plans and conveyed information without professional jargon. I imagine this is what cultivates my passion in the beauty industry.

So, starting this Blog has probably always been inevitable. With the rise of social media I have discovered an increase in misinformation and myths being shared as advice and an increase in others asking for my own professional opinion. You’d think with the accessibility of, not only social media, but also the whole of the internet, accurate information should be found easily. Beauty influencers with no qualifications, experience or just wanting to gain more views and followers posting inaccurate advice or “hacks” are doing a disservice to the beauty industry and exploiting their follower’s insecurities. When I first started this industry, I was fixing clients issues caused by other beauty therapists, however, now it is inexperienced and unqualified individuals wishing to make a quick buck. Here’s my first advice for this blog: Always visit a reputable salon or beauty therapist, ask about their qualifications and experience. No one will be offended if they don’t have something to hide. During my traineeship any clients I performed treatments on were informed I was still studying and, since qualifying, I still get asked how long I’ve been a beauty therapist by most new clients.

Actually, this leads to the next point of why I have started this blog, I always get asked the same questions (I will be answering these on later posts). Surely that means there is a lack of client knowledge or a searchable clear explanation online. I used to get asked questions by clients or people I met while out, now I’m also being asked online.

“Why did you become a beauty therapist?”

“Why do I keep getting ingrown hairs?”

“Should I get Microdermabrasion or a Peel?”

“Will IPL work for me?”

“Does a Brazilian wax hurt?” (I can give a short answer to this right now! Yes, any pulling out of hair will to some degree!)

These questions are just a tiny fraction of what I’m regularly asked and will answer in this blog. I will also be sharing some of my fun and creative work as a Makeup Artist, with behind the scenes details and explanations of what and why certain products were used. Whenever I speak about my creative Makeup Art to people outside of the industry, there is a fascination that this is an actual thing that happens! You might even have found this through some random body painting I’ve shared online and wondering who in the world does this?!

Well hi, I do! And as a child I was doing the same thing sneakily using my Mum’s makeup (sorry for finding out this way Mum!) turning myself into characters and then washing it off in the shower before anyone caught me. I love that I get paid to paint living art and now I’m looking forward to sharing my decade long experience and passion with everyone!

Thank you for visiting and seeing what I am all about, please explore and I hope you discover something new!
