My Secret to Getting a Good Night's Sleep!

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you one of my favourite products I have recently come across. Honest Health Co.'s Balms! Ta Dah:

The star of the show is the Insomnia Balm, containing Cedarwood, Lavender, German Chamomile and Bergamot, which is an amazing mix of relaxing, calming and sedative natural ingredients. I, for one, find just a sniff of lavender can instantly relax and soothe me. Believe me, I was that difficult child that just would not sleep and my Mum tried many cures. As an adult that finds it difficult to get regular sleeping hours, this Insomnia Balm has an instant feeling of relaxation without an over powering scent of lavender (which I know a lot of people are not keen on).

Looking at the ingredients listed on the back of the tin, it is rare to find a list easy to read and understanding what the ingredient actually is rather than a bunch of unpronounceable chemicals. This seems to stand along with Honest Health Co.'s ethos which is refreshing in this modern time. I would like to mention that the balm's aroma isn't strong or pungent that clings to everything it comes to a close proximity to. Personally I prefer a strong everlasting scent, however I also appreciate a lot of people would be the complete opposite and so this isn't an issue that would alienate potential consumers. You know, I can simply just apply more as needed!

So when I received my package I was surprised at how small 30ml actually is, however a less is more approach is important with these balms. I use about half a pea size each use and after emulsifying between my fingers (to warm so it becomes soft and spreadable) I apply one quarter to each of my wrists and another quarter behind each of my ears which I massage down behind my neck, because who doesn't love a bit of extra self care?! I then breathe deeply into my hands and that is what the wave of relaxation hits! I did initially love this so much I would massage a bit extra into my temples so I could smell it for longer, but I found I started breaking out a little where I applied on my face, this dispersed when I stopped applying. So stick to the recommended areas, especially on first application to be sure of any allergies you may not be aware of.

Although there is a large range of condition specific balms available, at the time of order I bought the three that I felt would be important to me personally. I've spoken about suffering from insomnia since being a child, however I also suffer from anxiety and Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. Anxiety Balm contains Ylang Ylang, Peppermint, Mandarin and Bergamot which is mood boosting and calming blend. My anxiety is easily managed, but I was having a flare when I purchased and upon arrival I enjoyed taking the moment to apply and refocus my breathing.

A symptom of having PCOS is having wild PMS anywhere during my cycle (the best is when it can last for a few weeks!) So I ordered Lady Balm that contains Frankincense, Clary Sage and Bergamot so it assists in calming, soothing inflammation and balancing hormones. I find this balm to be useful for those "Meh" days and I don't get a chance to snuggle up with a hot water bottle or have to focus on the job at hand.

After trying and regularly using these balms, I still want to try a few of the others available, including Hangover Remedy (not for hangovers, but I experience nausea often), Cold and Flu Balm, Headache, Mental Fatigue, Stress and No Burn Muscle Balm.

Please note, that at time of publishing, these products have been renamed since originally writing. Insomnia Balm is now named Rest, Anxiety Balm is now Zen and Lady Balm is now Goddess.

With no animal testing and ethically sourced raw materials, it is an added bonus that all profits from the Anxiety Balm (Zen) go to Headspace. With a shift in society to focus on mindfulness and the right lifestyle balance, these products area great aid in achieving mental and spiritual well being.

Also, if you are a beauty or wellness professional, these products are a great add-on to your relaxing treatments and your client's home routines.

Honest Health Co. has also released ranges of tea, skincare, perfumes and a baby calm range. I've dabbled in a few of these new products and will be bringing information on these in the future!
